The New York Times published an interesting article about two major studies whose results demonstrate a clear link between untreated hearing loss and increased risk of dementia, depression, falls and even cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately, hearing aids are not currently covered by medical insurance, and can be quite expensive…causing people to delay treatment for their hearing loss until it reaches a critical point.
As the technology becomes better and less expensive, hearing aids will become more readily available for those who need them. Our hope is that medical insurance providers will realize the benefits of providing hearing aid coverage to patients in need and that this becomes a reality in the not-so-distant future.
